[Trading Journal & Execution] Real-Time Swing Trading Feedback: Managing Gaps and Phased Buying

I quickly posted about reducing my position right before the market opened, but trying to explain everything through text always leaves a bit of regret. For your reference, I am organizing the core execution principles once again.

I’d love to post real-time updates telling you precisely “buy this” or “sell that” during the session, but as an active trader myself, I simply always run out of time. However, the basic framework for swing trading always remains the same. It’s not about trying to guess whether the market will “go up or down”; it’s about flexible execution—trimming when it gaps up and reloading when it pulls back.

To make sure there’s no confusion going forward, I am going to pin this core standardized rule right at the very top of the blog so it’s always visible.

Second Trade Summary (Aug 17):

  • Entry at 710.93; even if you trimmed your position, it’s in profit, and if you bought back when it pulled back…

💡 Real-Time Trading Execution Scenarios

  • Phased Scale-in Buying (1 to 3 tranches): I talk based on QQQ, but from a swing trading perspective, using TQQQ isn’t a bad idea either.
  • If the next day opens with a gap-up after your initial entry: Don’t be greedy—manage risk by reducing your position (taking partial profits). Later, if the price pulls back down toward your original entry price during the session, buy back the exact amount you trimmed earlier.
  • If the market moves downward instead: If it slips below yesterday’s close, manage your risk according to the phased buying rules and prepare for additional entries.

I’ll share more thoughts if anything comes up during future trading sessions.

Trade with discipline and stick to your rules today. Happy trading!
